WHAT'S HAPPENING AT
FAITH:
Office Hours
The
office will continue to be closed of Fridays throughout the year.
Regular office hours are Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00
p.m.
A “May Days” Dinner
The final offering from the Food & Fellowship
Committee for the 2011-2012 season, will be “May Days” to
be held at 6:30 pm on Friday, May 4, at Carlo's Restaurant
in Chicago Heights. Your last chance to advance register and make your
prepayment of $25.00 per person is after services April 29. Please plan
to attend and join us as we look forward to sharing this day with
members of our Faith family and friends. For further information
contact Vaughn Van Dolah at 708-533-7876.
Are You a 2012 Graduate?
Sunday,
May 6, is designated as Graduate Sunday. If you or someone
in your family is graduating this year from high school, college, or
trade school, please fill out the form on the bulletin insert, or call
the church by Tuesday, May 1, with the information, so we can
publish it on May 6.
How’s your Blood Pressure?
The Care & Nurture Ministry is bringing back blood pressure
screenings. Look for a nurse between the 8:00 and 10:15 am services to take your blood
pressure on the first Sunday of each month. We will begin Sunday, May 6.
Water. Please!
Our Java Stop
free coffee/water Tuesdays begins on
May 8. Last year so many of you were gracious in donating
water to this program in order to keep our costs down. If you can
do so again, bring it to the church office, and we will be glad to
receive it. We are only interested in individual bottles, not big
jugs of water. Thank you in advance for you generosity.
Parking Reminder
As a reminder,
we ask that you be respectful of posted signage regarding parking on
the west side of the building. Please help us to insure that designated
spaces are available for use by those they are intended for. There are
two handicapped spots, one on each side of the walk, a “reserved”
parking space for the pastor’s use at all times, and the remaining
spaces designated for Sunday Morning Visitors. Additional “special
needs” spaces are available with one additional handicap space in the
south parking lot. Thank you for your assistance with this.
Peace and Harmony
Anyone?
In attempting to
define the concept of a Social Justice Committee, I (Pat Ariel) went to
the internet and found several compelling and definitive
statements. “Social Justice: The fair and proper administration
of laws conforming to the natural law that all persons, irrespective of
ethnic origin, gender, possessions, race, religion, etc., are to be
treated equally and without prejudice.” (businessdictionary.com)
And another - “Social justice includes empowerment of the individual as
well as active confrontation of injustice and inequality in
society...by promoting critical principals of equity, access,
participation and harmony.” And my favorite - “You must be the
change you want to see in the world!” (Mahatma Ghandi) We are looking
for a few more social conscious participants for the committee to help
the church “...be the change (we) want to see in the world!”
Please call Mark Kennedy or Pat Ariel if you have an interest in this
area.
Grounds Planting
The Grounds Committee is looking for volunteers to
donate their time and talents to assist in this year’s spring/summer
planting. We plan to do the major planting of annual flowers on
Saturday, May 19, starting at 9:00 am. If you are available, please
sign up after services on April 29, May 6 or 13, or by contacting Rick
Johnston or Vaughn Van Dolah.
Bell Choir
Director Needed
The Personnel Committee, on behalf of Faith Church,
is looking for a part-time Bell Choir Director. If you know of anyone
who might be interested, please give the name and phone number to Nancy
Hughes in the church office. She will send the information to the
Personnel Committee.
Think Dine-Around Time Again!
During May, we will be selling tickets for $10 per
person at the
sign-up table. We also hope that many of you will sign up for this fun
fellowship and food.
Not only does the Benevolence Committee want to thank you in advance,
but the Fundraising Committee appreciates all of the effort our hosts
put into their meals and, of course, we appreciate all of the fun the
guests have with so many members and friends of Faith Church.
Looking Ahead
Faith Community Fest
Faith Church is putting on a bash like you haven’t seen in a long
while. Saturday, June 9,
from11:00 am until 3:00 pm will be the first annual (we
hope) Faith Community Fest. There will be FREE FOOD, games for
all ages, and lots of fun for everyone. This event is being
coordinated with much help from the Village of Park Forest, Parks and
Recreation Department, and by all ministries, Council, and fellowships;
we’re giving it our all. Now we want you to do the same.
Mark this date as a “must attend” in your calendar and plan to bring
yourself, your kids, your grandkids, your friends and neighbors, and
support this all-out effort by your Faith family. This festival is an
all-community event, so spread the word, and plan to be here.
